ルネサンス期のもっとも美しい書体と物語イニシャル
パドヴァ出身の写字生バルトロメオ・サンヴィート（Bartolomeo Sanvito; 1435–1518）が写字し彩飾した希少な零葉である。パドヴァとローマで活躍したサンヴィートのヒューマニスト書体は15世紀イタリアでもっとも美しいとされ、アルド・マヌーツィオのイタリック体活字の手本ともなったと推測されている。サンヴィートは1470年代の終わりから1480年代にかけて小型の時禱書を制作している。この零葉は「十字架の時禱」の朝課の冒頭部で、物語イニシャル‘D’のなかには本文に対応して十字架が描かれている。また、金文字と色文字を交互に用いるサンヴィートの特徴が見られる。(TM)
