紋章入りの大型イニシャル
復活祭のミサの続唱の冒頭を飾る大型の物語イニシャル ‘V’で、盾を持つ天使が描かれている。盾に描かれている羊の前半身は、シュヴァーベンのMagenbuch家由来の紋章で、おそらくこのミサ典書の寄贈者のものと思われる。装飾の様式は15世紀に同地域で制作されたWalburg祈祷書に似ているとされる(Geh and Römer, pp. 130-2)。所有者や寄贈者の紋章を彩飾イニシャルや欄外余白に挿入することはしばしばなされた。かなり大型の写本から、美しい彩飾が施された部分のみが、近代以降に蒐集家によって切り取られたのではないかと推測される。 (TM)
