「執り成しの祈り」の聖人像
時禱書の後半に位置する「執り成しの祈り」の零葉。自分の首を抱えた聖ドニ（ディオニュシウス）が ‘D’のなかに描かれている。「執り成しの祈り」では、天上のヒエラルキーに従って、神、三位一体、聖母マリア、大天使ミカエル、洗礼者ヨハネ、使徒、聖人、聖女の順に、全体で十数編の祈祷文が続き、各祈祷文の冒頭には対象となる聖人の細密画や物語イニシャルが描かれることが多い。パリの守護聖人聖ドニは斬首されたが、首を抱えて説教しながら数キロ歩いたとされ、死んだ場所には礼拝堂が建てられ今日のサン・ドニ大聖堂となったとされる。書体は15世紀のゴシック・バタルド体で、テクスチューラ体よりも丸みを帯びた草書体である。2種類のｓとrの使い分け、tと区別がつきにくいc、独特のgなど、特徴的な文字が見られる。(TM）
