慶應義塾図書館が所蔵する最古の西洋中世写本
新約聖書の『ローマの信徒への手紙』（10:15 – 11:5, 11:20 – 32）が書かれた断片で、慶應義塾図書館が収蔵する西洋中世写本のなかで制作時期がもっとも古い写本である。この断片には、写本学者Bernhard Bischoff (1906–91)が1976年にアメリカの書誌学者で古書業者のBernard M. Rosenthal（1920–2017）に宛てた手紙が一緒に保管されている。それによると、この断片は9世紀第2四半期にトゥルネー（ベルギー）郊外のサン・タマン修道院のスクリプトリウムで写字されたものである。小文字は茶色のインクを用いてカロリング朝体で書かれ、一方で大文字はアンシャル体で書かれている。アンシャル体は4世紀にイタリアで考案された書体で6世紀頃まで広く使われ、その後も9世紀頃まで限定的に使用されていた。欄外に‘xxxviii’という章番号が朱書きされている。（TM）
