三条西実条〈さんじょうにしさねえだ・1575-1640〉は、内大臣実枝〈さねき・1511-79〉の孫、内大臣公国〈きんくに・1556-87〉の子。慶長11年〈1606〉に権中納言、同18年〈1613〉に権大納言と順調に昇進。寛永17年〈1640〉には従一位・右大臣に至るも、同年、66歳で没した。実条は父を早くに亡くしたため、細川幽斎〈ほそかわゆうさい・1534-1610〉から歌学を学び、慶長９年〈1604〉古今伝授を受け、自家の学を継承した。著作に、和歌の語釈や歌会の作法について述べた『詠歌聞書（えいかのききがき）』がある。書においては、三条流にその名を残すが、この短冊には、伝統的書法の枠を超えた個性味あふれる書風が展開されている。歌題は別筆。
