興意法親王〈こういほうしんのう・1576-1620〉は、誠仁親王〈さねひとしんのう＝陽光太上天皇・1552-86〉の子。はじめ円満院（えんまんいん）に入り、天正19年〈1591〉に改めて聖護院（しょうごいん）に入室、法諱を道勝（どうしょう）と号した。慶長12年〈1607〉、方広寺（ほうこうじ）大仏殿の寺務職を兼帯、ついで道澄〈どうちょう・1544-1608〉を開山とする天台宗照高院（しょうこういん）を継承した。同13年〈1608〉、興意と改名。同19年〈1614〉、方広寺大仏殿の棟礼に先例と異なる銘文を執筆し、徳川氏調伏の修法を行ったとの嫌疑を受け、勝仙院（しょうせんいん）に蟄居の身となる。のち許されるが、元和６年〈1620〉江戸に赴いた際、同地で急死した。享年45歳。父親王は後柏原院流の名手であったが、興意法親王は道澄流（龍山流）を受け継いでいる。尊円流（青蓮院流）の系譜につらなる、温和な筆跡である。歌題の「箏（こと）」は、「そう」「そうのこと」とも読む。13絃の雅楽器で、胴の上に柱（じ）を立てて演奏するものを箏（そう）、立てないものを琴（こと）という。
