持明院基時〈じみょういんもととき・1635-1704〉は、基定〈もとさだ・1607-67〉の子。正二位・権大納言に至る。持明院家は、世尊寺家のあとを受けて、代々宮廷書道の中心となった家柄。基時も宗匠として、紫宸殿（ししんでん・平安宮内裏正殿）の賢聖障子（けんじょうのしょうじ）の銘の揮毫など、中年期以降の能書活動が『続史愚抄（ぞくしぐしょう）』などによって知ることができる。また、基時の口伝を筆録したものとして、『入木道相伝之事』（じゅぼくどうそうでんのこと・一巻。静嘉堂文庫蔵。『入木道伝書』巻第四所収）がある。この短冊は、雲紙に父祖伝来の持明院流の筆致を遺憾なく発揮する。詠歌は『新明題和歌集』（巻第二・夏部）に収められている。
