中院通村〈なかのいんみちむら・1588-1653〉は、通勝〈みちかつ・1556-1610〉の子。正二位・内大臣に昇る。号は後十輪院（のちのじゅうりんいん）。通村は後水尾天皇〈ごみずのおてんのう・1596-1680〉の信頼厚く、寛永６年〈1629〉の天皇譲位事件の際には、幕府によって一時江戸に幽閉されたほどであった。幼少より国学に精通した父通勝の薫陶を受け、とりわけ和歌をよくし、家集『後十輪院集』（２巻）がある。また、書においては、世尊寺流の能書として聞こえたが、一派を立てられて中院流の祖とされる。この短冊においても、早くからの世尊寺（せそんじ）流の名手にふさわしい闊達な筆致を示している。歌題は別筆。
