烏丸光雄〈からすまるみつお・1647-90〉は、資慶〈すけよし・1622-70〉の子。従二位・権大納言に至る。家伝の歌学を継承し、歌人として名を成すとともに歌学者としても活躍した。光雄の書風は、曾祖父光広〈みつひろ・1579-1638〉の門人であった荒木素白〈あらきそはく・1600-85〉にはじまる素白流に属す。この短冊は、素白流の特色である上代様（じょうだいよう・平安時代の優れた書跡の総称。17世紀半ば、御家流・唐様の隆盛に対し、平安朝の名筆への回帰を唱えた復古和様の動きがあり、上代様の書風が復興された）の美しい筆致で書写される。この短冊は、上下に金泥で罫を引いた、罫がけ短冊と呼ばれるもの。短冊上部中央には、歌会終了時に紙捻（こより）で綴じた時の小さな穴痕が残る。歌題は別筆。
