古筆了意〈こひつりょうい・1751-1834〉は、古筆本家第９世。名は定常（さだつね）、のち最長（よしなが）。古筆家初代了佐〈りょうさ・1572-1662〉の直門・初代神田道僖〈かんだどうき・1580-1655〉の５代目にあたる神田道僖定武〈さだたけ・1710-1773〉の長男。師家の８世了泉〈りょうせん・1741-1783〉が天明３年〈1783〉に没したため、養子に迎えられ、本家を相続した。細かい事歴は不明であるが、京都本家を継いで鑑定を行いながら、時折江戸に出て古筆見（こひつみ・寺社奉行に属する役職）として活躍したという。考証好きであったらしく、極札や折紙のほかに、小字で詳しい識語を加えたものも散見される。天保５年〈1834〉、84歳で没。この短冊は、自詠の狂歌を書き付ける。同じ狂歌を詠んだ短冊がもう１枚存在する（当館所蔵、No.01485-0000）。うち１枚は箸箱の蓋裏にでも貼り付けるべく用意されたものか。懐狭く縦長の字形は、了意独自の筆法・書風である。
