冷泉為満〈れいぜいためみつ・1559-1619〉は、冷泉為益〈れいぜいためます・1516-70〉の子。幼名は為房（ためふさ）。若年の頃、正親町天皇〈おおぎまちてんのう・1517-93〉の勅勘を蒙り、以後不遇に過ごす。慶長17年〈1612〉、54歳にしてようやく参議となり、元和４年〈1618〉に権大納言に至った。為満は歌道師範の家柄にあり、慶長19年〈1614〉には、駿府で徳川家康のために『古今和歌集』を伝授したという。この短冊は藍と紫の雲紙に書写したもの。冷泉家は代々、遠祖定家に倣った定家流の書を受け継いでおり、為満もその特徴的な書風に巧みであった。この短冊は、「聖廟御法楽元和四年〈1618〉六月廿五日」の注記を残すことから、天神法楽（てんじんほうらく）・聖廟法楽（せいびょうほうらく）の名のもと、京都の北野天満宮で歌会が催された折に奉納されたものと思われる。為満が没するおよそ８か月前の、まさに最晩年の筆である。
