一条冬良〈いちじょうふゆよし・1464-1514〉は、関白兼良〈かねよし・1402-81〉の二男。名門公卿の子弟にふさわしく、輝かしい昇進をとげ、文明11年〈1479〉には16歳で権大納言に着任。翌12年〈1480〉、兄教房〈のりふさ・1423-80〉が57歳で死亡したため、その猶子として家督を継いだ。その後は、内大臣・関白・太政大臣を歴任している。父兼良の学問を受け継いだ冬良は、文才に秀で、明応４年〈1495〉には飯尾宗祇〈いいおそうぎ・1421-1502〉に命じて連歌集『新撰菟玖波集』を編纂させ、自ら奏覧した。これは勅撰に準じられた。その書は、後円融天皇〈ごえんゆうてんのう・1358-93〉を祖とする勅筆流に属する。が、朴訥と筆を運ぶ筆致は冬良特有の個性である。歌題は別筆。
