A court noble of the Muromachi Period, Ichijo Fuyuyoshi (1464-1514)was born the second son of Kaneyoshi (1402-1481). In 1488, Fuyuyoshi became Senior Regent and was given the very high court rank of Junior First Rank at the fair age of 29 (1492). He became Prime Minister the following year. Inheriting academic and literary inclinations from his father, Kaneyoshi, who was one of the most learned scholars among the Muromachi-era aristocrats, Fuyuyoshi was also an achieved scholar. Like his father, he was also a calligrapher of the Chokuhitsu School, originated by Emperor GoEnyu (1358-93).The exhibited Chinese poem is titled “Flowers Welcoming Literary Guests” and was written in the four-line, seven-character format, in block calligraphy. Several of Fuyuyoshi’s authentic brushworks, such as tanzaku, have survived to date, and although not a highly achieved, Fuyuyoshi’s hand is filled with warmth and simplicity.<\/p>\r\n"},{"number":1,"jp":"
