Nobufusa (1258-1348), the son of Sukemichi (1226-1306), was a court noble who lived from the Kamakura Period to the Nambokucho Period (Period of Southern-and-Northern Dynasties). Nobufusa won the trust of Emperor GoDaigo (1288-1339) and led an active life. He was appointed Provisional Major Counselor in 1324, from which he resigned and then resumed twice before reaching the high office of Major Counselor in 1331. Later, Nobufusa was arrested by the Kamakura military government on suspicion of plotting to overthrow it and, thus, was stripped of his official titles; however, under the new administration, he was reinstated to his former post. In 1336, he resorted to Buddhism. On this kaishi, Nobufusa’s waka is in Manyo-style phonetic characters, but in block calligraphy. From the title, one can guess that the poem was composed on the day of the Star Festival when Nobufusa was still Provisional Major Counselor.

七夕同詠七夕絲倭歌権大納言藤原宣房加波良慈農祢賀比能以登遠織女濃伊久安喜懸之千義理那留羅舞

Spinning on the Star Festival: How many years has the Weaving Princess (Star Vega) been at her work, wishing to see her lover, Prince Cowherd?
