second son of the famous Satomura Joha (1524-1602), Satomura Genchu (1578-1638) became a renga (linked verse) poet of the early Edo Period, inheriting his father\u2019s pseudonym Rinsaiko but sometimes going by the name of Sho-oh. Later, the Tokugawa military government hired him as a renga master, and with his service beginning in 1625, he alternated with Satomura Shotaku (1574-1636) as the master of ceremonies of renga parties held at Edo Castle.This letter is a reply to a disciple, Ninomiya Kyudayu, about a renga poem Genchu edited. While Genchu followed the Teika Style for writing poems on tanzaku (narrow paper strips) and kaishi paper, he wrote this letter in the Jimyo-In Style, an informal writing style that had been adopted by the nobility.
