\u70ba\u660e\uff08\u82b1\u62bc\uff09\u300d<\/p>","en":"<p>Nijo Tameakira (1295-1364) was a courtier aristocrat during the Kamakura Period and Nambokucho Period (Period of the Northern and Southern Dynasties) and was also a highly achieved poet who was influential in the world of poetry composing, sometimes serving as lecturer\/instructor at poetry parties. He was taken into confidence by Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiakira (1330-67). Later, he was appointed by Emperor Gokogon (1338-74) to serve as a committee member for compiling the imperial anthology of Shin Shui Wakashu (The New Collection of Gleanings of Japanese Poety). Tameakira, however, died without finishing the editing.The Taiheiki (Chronicle of the Great Peace) Vol. 2 describes an episode in which Tameakira had joined the army of Emperor Godaigo (1288-1339) but was arrested by the Rokuhara deputy government for plotting against the Shogunate then headed by Hojo Takatoki. On the verge of execution, Tameakira composed a poem lamenting that he had been arrested for a worldly affair and not for the matter of primary concern to him, which was the art of poetry composition, the family business. This poem is said to have moved the governor of Suruga Tokoha Norisada so much so that Tameakira was pardoned. The hiragana letter appearing here describes the incident. The name of the addressee is omitted, perhaps out of consideration to the addressee not wanting to be implicated in a political development. From the content of the letter, it was obviously addressed to somebody close to Tameakira. Traces of writing are visible on the back of this letter, indicating this letter is shihai-monjo, or writing on waste paper.
