Soshun (years of birth\/death unknown) was a Momoyama townsman, was known as the tea master who trained under Sen-no-Rikyu, and was active under the pen name of Hanyinsai. One snowy night, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, then living at Jurakudai Mansion, came to visit Soshun\u2019s home, accompanied by Rikyu. Soshun promptly dedicated small heaps of washed rice on a small wooden stand for placing an offering. Hideyoshi was extremely pleased by this welcoming gesture, interpreting it as a show of reverence likening him to a god. Soshun actually left behind many interesting episodes centered on tea. Some are collected in  Genryu Chawa, describing the origin of the tea ceremony, and Soshun Oh Kikigaki (lit. \u201cOld Soshun\u2019s Interviews\u201d). Soshun addresses this letter to Oda Uraku (1547-1621), one of Rikyu\u2019s disciples. He had been planning to visit Uraku when the latter notified of his visit. Soshun apologizes for not contacting him due to myriad of things to do. He finishes on the note that he will discuss all the details when they meet.
