Conversely, Japanese mirrors replaced those motifs with Japanese-style designs. Auspicious flowers were replaced by the pine, plum, globeflower, chrysanthemum, pampas grass, and other autumn plants, while phoenixes were replaced by mandarin ducks, cranes, and sparrows, all of which were more familiar to the Japanese.
