The son of Itamiya Jomu, he was commonly called Genzayemon, but his Buddhist name was Den-o. Both father and son were famous tea masters, and Soufu cultivated friendships with Kogetsu Sogan, Gyokushitsu Sohaku, and Takuan Soho of Daitokuji Temple. He had studied sado (way of tea, tea ceremony, ceremonial tea) under Kobori Enshu.In this letter, Soufu announces that Ueda Soko (1563-1650), who was in charge of tea-related affairs in Asano Province, in Aki (today\u2019s Hiroshima Pref.), is coming up to Kyoto.
