Lord of Aki Province, Hiroshima, Asano Naga-akira (1586-1632) was a military general during the early Edo Period. He closely served Toyotomi Hideyoshi, but after this generalissimo\u2019s demise, he became Tokugawa Ieyasu\u2019s retainer. When his elder brother Yoshinaga (1576-1613) died, Naga-akir became Lord of Wakayama Castle. The general went on to fight spectacularly during the Winter and Summer Battles of Osaka and later married Tokugawa Ieyasu\u2019s third daughter, Princess Furi (1580-1617), in 1616. In the same year, the couple moved into Aki Hiroshima Castle, bringing prosperity to that province.  This letter is addressed to Prince Toshihito (1579-1629), through Ikushima Hidemori (1568-1640), the prince\u2019s steward.
