Makura-no-Soshi) captures perfectly the high value the wisteria-and-pine combination once held. Wisteria itself became famed for its use in the family crest of the Fujiwara, which during the Heian Period produced the most powerful generations of regents. When combined with the pine tree, the symbol of longevity, the wisteria motif garnered considerable luck.
